Is it true that it's illegal for someone to inquire about your dog's service status?

Is it true that you can just walk into somewhere with your dog, without even outwardly stating they ARE service dogs and nobody's allowed to ask to see proof? I was reading that it would be an infringement of the Americans with Disabilities Act to do so
